The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device

Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and bringing viewers to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.
